EFForTS BEE: Exemplary Research Questions and Hypotheses

Exemplary research questions of EFForTS BEE are:

  • How many species need to be planted to gain a significant increase in ecosystem functioning?

  • Which species composition and island size is the most effective?

  • What are the trade-offs between ecological and socioeconomic functions? How can we alleviate these trade-offs?

Overall Question:

  • How can tree islands and agroforestry be designed to be suitable strategies for ecological restorations in oil palm plantations (e.g., how many tree species to plant and what tree island size)?

Exemplary hypotheses of EFForTS BEE are depicted in the following graphs:

Research questions and hypotheses based on presentations by Holger Kreft and Clara Zemp.
