Preliminary results of interdisciplinary synthesis research indicate that tree enrichment highly enhanced multidiversity and ecosystem multifunctionality in comparison to conventional oil palm monocultures. Especially larger tree islands are beneficial because of more changes in vegetation structure. At the same time, tree island enrichment seems not to decrease oil palm yield on the plantation level significantly.
